Reconsidering EU Immigration policies towards Albania: Smoothing Asymmetries, ACFR, Tirana, 2010 (This publication was made possible through the financial support of the SOROS foundation).

EU migration policy towards Albania has been diversified in different aspects, moving from the early restrictive policies of closing the borders and punishment to policies of short-term visa facilitation and liberalization, with the latter going on a very slow motion. Given the Albanian migration context and improvements on combating ‘illegal migration’ the imperative rest on speeding ‘legal migration’ through visa liberalization process and a view towards a more comprehensive approach on linking migration policies to issues of development issues which will be beneficial for both EU and Albania.
